Draft Grade — Steelers

The Steelers won the night they stopped King from sliding. Grade: B.

Call it larceny. Kalen King sat on the board until pick No. 84, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice.

Thomas has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging. Safety was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In No. 26 they get an island corner at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at pick 52 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick58 Rnd2 Kiran Amegadjie
A surprising call. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 2 slot on Kiran Amegadjie, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick84 Rnd3 Kalen King
The board fumbled Kalen King all the way to slot 84, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick120 Rnd4 James Williams
They paid up for James Williams at Round 4, Pick 20 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick121 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at pick No. 121 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick198 Rnd6 Javon Baker
A tidy bit of business in the 198th overall pick, where Javon Baker graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238 Rnd7 Xavier Thomas
They left a pile of value on the table to take Xavier Thomas this early at the 238th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
