FutureB
The Chargers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. The tape said wait; the Chargers did not. Jaylen Harrell went at Round 6, Pick 5, a good 41 picks before the board was ready. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Getting Mims where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick 15 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37
Rnd2
Terrion Arnold
Value with a capital V on Terrion Arnold in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick46
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims at the 46th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick69
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 5: Malachi Corley for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick104
Rnd4
Blake Corum
Blake Corum in slot 104 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at pick No. 139 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick180
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
Value said wait; Jaylen Harrell in Round 6, Pick 5 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick225
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
Good price on Michael Barrett in slot 225, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick253
Rnd7
Ryan Watts
No drama and no debate, Ryan Watts went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
