FutureB-
The Raiders bet the future on Mendoza. The board says D-. Somebody took the Raiders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
They have staked the next five years on Fernando Mendoza, which is the only story that really matters here. Getting Golday where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Hill Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at offensive lineman, running back and other spots.
They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick25
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In slot 25 they get a green-dot type in the middle at fair value. More want than need.
Pick36
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 36 on Anthony Hill Jr. with offensive lineman, running back and other spots unsolved.
Pick57
Rnd2
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in the 57th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick77
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in Round 3, Pick 13 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102
Rnd4
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley in the 102nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick116
Rnd4
Jake Golday
Circle this one: Jake Golday at pick No. 116 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick117
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
A straight-up fair deal on Bryce Lance at No. 117, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick134
Rnd4
Will Lee III
Will Lee III in pick 134 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick153
Rnd5
Kyle Louis
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 15 with a little surplus value in Kyle Louis. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick174
Rnd5
Ted Hurst
They paid sticker price for Ted Hurst in the 174th pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
