Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Larceny in slot 100 lands the 49ers a B+, Sampson and all.

When a board-topper like Dylan Sampson slides to pick No. 100, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. Roberts has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback went begging. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Jalon Walker
In pick No. 30 they get a three-down second-level presence. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
They took Tyler Booker at par in slot 33, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick43 Rnd2 Princely Umanmielen
Value with a capital V on Princely Umanmielen in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Pick44 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Nice patience on Derrick Harmon, who had no business lasting to No. 44. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick49 Rnd2 Trey Amos
Trey Amos at the 49th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick75 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
A tidy little value on Cameron Williams in pick 75, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick81 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
A straight-up fair deal on Ozzy Trapilo at the 81st pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick85 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
A reach on Ashton Gillotte in Round 3, Pick 21; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick89 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Alexander. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick100 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
They barely believed it either: Dylan Sampson still on the board at pick No. 100. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick101 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
They will replay Mason Taylor at pick 101 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick104 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick108 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
Somehow Andrew Mukuba was still sitting there in the 108th overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick110 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
The board had Cam Skattebo higher than slot 110, and the running back fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick113 Rnd4 Tai Felton
Tai Felton at No. 113 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127 Rnd4 Cobee Bryant
A want over a need in the 127th pick: Cobee Bryant adds a cornerback while quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick132 Rnd4 Logan Brown
They liked Logan Brown enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jackson Slater
A reach for Jackson Slater in Round 4, Pick 31; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick134 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills in pick 134 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jaylin Lane
Jaylin Lane in the 138th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147 Rnd5 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
The board had cheaper options than Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick No. 147, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick153 Rnd5 Elijah Roberts
This one needs a full-page explanation: Elijah Roberts in No. 153, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick160 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
A tidy bit of business in the 160th pick, where O'Donnell Fortune graded well above the range. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick161 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at slot 161 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick227 Rnd7 Kyle Monangai
They read the board right and Kyle Monangai was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
