The war room fell hard for Francisco Mauigoa, and it showed at pick No. 247: 52 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

The whole projection now runs through Jaxson Dart; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. It is not that Winston Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Hampton at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
