The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Hampton: B.

Call it larceny. Omarion Hampton sat on the board until Round 2, Pick 29, and the 49ers did not need to be asked twice.

Every board in the league had West lower, and that gap is the story. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

In slot 24 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.

Nothing to complain about; Josh Conerly Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.

Taking Omarion Hampton in pick No. 61 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

No drama and no debate, Ozzy Trapilo went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 12. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
