Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bills robbed the room for Baker. Final grade: B. Call it larceny. Javon Baker sat on the board until the 128th overall pick, and the Bills did not need to be asked twice.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. The Bailey pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The roster is better shaped than it was, with linebacker chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In No. 28 they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
They robbed the room for Adonai Mitchell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick128
Rnd4
Javon Baker
They will replay Javon Baker at the 128th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick134
Rnd4
Josh Newton
They let Josh Newton come to them and pounced at slot 134. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick144
Rnd5
McKinnley Jackson
McKinnley Jackson in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick160
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
Nice patience on Mason McCormick, who had no business lasting to pick No. 160. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick163
Rnd5
Beau Brade
Beau Brade at the 163rd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick189
Rnd6
M.J. Devonshire
A straight-up fair deal on M.J. Devonshire at pick 189, value and slot in agreement. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick200
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at slot 200 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick204
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
A conviction pick on Nathaniel Watson at pick 204 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick248
Rnd7
Emani Bailey
The board had cheaper options than Emani Bailey at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
