FutureB-
The Bears answered their biggest question with Williams. Grade: B+. The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
Nourzad has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Ford. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the 1st pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick15
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
A reach on Xavier Worthy in pick 46; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick72
Rnd3
Chris Braswell
Somehow Chris Braswell was still sitting there in pick No. 72, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Lynn Polk. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick117
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick122
Rnd4
Hunter Nourzad
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hunter Nourzad in the 122nd overall pick, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick234
Rnd7
Jaylan Ford
They barely believed it either: Jaylan Ford still on the board at No. 234. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
