Draft Grade — Cowboys

Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Howard: D. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Xavier Truss a full 52 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
That Howard pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In pick 12 they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Armand Membou
Armand Membou at Round 2, Pick 12 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick74
Rnd3
Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams at the 74th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick76
Rnd3
Deone Walker
The board had cheaper options than Deone Walker at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick94
Rnd3
Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at pick No. 94 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick114
Rnd4
Bhayshul Tuten
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bhayshul Tuten. The roster fit checks out.
Pick149
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Value with a capital V on Malachi Moore in the 149th pick, a genuine coup. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick171
Rnd5
Will Howard
Will Howard at the 171st overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick174
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in No. 174 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick204
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
No edge and no loss on Nazir Stackhouse in Round 6, Pick 28; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick211
Rnd6
Ja'Quinden Jackson
They paid up for Ja'Quinden Jackson at pick 211 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick239
Rnd7
Xavier Truss
Xavier Truss in slot 239 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick247
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
A premium they did not need to pay, Tonka Hemingway a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
