Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA- FutureB+
A solid, sensible weekend for the Cowboys: B.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Cowboys shredded theirs for Malachi Lawrence. He came off 29 spots early, and the room will hear about it.

Golday falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Spending an early pick on edge rusher with quarterback and running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Colton Hood
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 CJ Allen
They read the board right and CJ Allen was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 7. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick47 Rnd2 Malachi Lawrence
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Malachi Lawrence well ahead of where he belonged. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick78 Rnd3 Jake Golday
Of all the spots to shop, they chose edge rusher. Jake Golday in No. 78 leaves quarterback and running back for later.
Pick92 Rnd3 Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis in slot 92 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick112 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge in the 112th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149 Rnd5 Charles Demmings
They did well to land Charles Demmings in pick No. 149, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick152 Rnd5 Zane Durant
Zane Durant at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick177 Rnd5 Marlin Klein
Good price on Marlin Klein in Round 5, Pick 37, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick180 Rnd5 Jeff Caldwell
Jeff Caldwell in No. 180 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick218 Rnd7 Lander Barton
A straight-up fair deal on Lander Barton at pick 218, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
