FutureA
A franchise passer in Daniels headlines a D weekend for the Cowboys. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Kedon Slovis in No. 221.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Wilson.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick24
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton at slot 34 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick38
Rnd2
Junior Colson
Junior Colson in pick 38 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick60
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at the 60th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick90
Rnd3
Braelon Allen
A premium they did not need to pay, Braelon Allen a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick134
Rnd4
Christian Jones
Christian Jones in Round 4, Pick 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138
Rnd5
Dwight McGlothern
They talked themselves into Dwight McGlothern at No. 138, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick144
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in the 144th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylan Ford in pick No. 174, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick216
Rnd6
Zion Logue
Zion Logue at the 216th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick221
Rnd7
Kedon Slovis
Kedon Slovis in pick 221 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
