Rosy DRAFTING FOR THEBengals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall

FutureB-
Johnson should have been long gone. The Bengals pounced, and earned a B-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Bengals watched Cornelius Johnson slide 36 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will need All to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In the 18th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
Good price on T'Vondre Sweat in No. 49, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick80
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at pick 80 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick97
Rnd3
Cam Hart
Cam Hart at the 97th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick115
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
They paid sticker price for Matt Goncalves in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing in pick No. 149 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick194
Rnd6
Erick All
Erick All in slot 194 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick214
Rnd6
Tanner McLachlan
They did well to land Tanner McLachlan in Round 6, Pick 39, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick224
Rnd7
Cornelius Johnson
They robbed the room for Cornelius Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick237
Rnd7
Tylan Grable
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tylan Grable in Round 7, Pick 17. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick238
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
Nothing to complain about; Michael Barrett went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
