The board owed the Bengals one, and it paid up: Jack Bech, the No. 66 name on the board, sitting there at Round 4, Pick 17 like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
