Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Commanders found their guy under center in Maye: B-.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.

Reaching for Sinnott left real value on the table behind him. The Colson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, cornerback and other spots still on the board. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the 2nd overall pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Payton Wilson. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick48 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zach Frazier this early at Round 2, Pick 16. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick67 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at slot 67 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick96 Rnd3 Matt Goncalves
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matt Goncalves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Ben Sinnott
Value said wait; Ben Sinnott in the Round 3 slot says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick102 Rnd4 Junior Colson
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Junior Colson adds a linebacker and leaves wide receiver, cornerback and other spots untouched.
Pick147 Rnd5 LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson in pick No. 147 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181 Rnd6 Tatum Bethune
A real head-scratcher, Tatum Bethune in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick187 Rnd6 Kurtis Rourke
Kurtis Rourke in pick 187 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick223 Rnd7 Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader at pick No. 223 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
