Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Chargers a B+.

The Chargers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Guerendo proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Spending an early pick on linebacker with interior defensive lineman and quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Colson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
No edge and no loss on Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 37th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick49 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at No. 49, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick69 Rnd3 Junior Colson
Junior Colson at pick No. 69 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick106 Rnd4 Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo at pick 106 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick110 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
They liked Blake Fisher enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 10. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick115 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
A curious use of slot 115. Interior defensive lineman and quarterback needed the pick; a linebacker in Cedric Gray did not.
Pick140 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
They did well to land Jarrian Jones in the 140th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick181 Rnd6 Tip Reiman
Tip Reiman in pick No. 181 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick225 Rnd7 Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick253 Rnd7 LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson at No. 253 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
