Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Mendoza is the plan now, and the Raiders grade out a B+.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Reaching for Rodriguez left real value on the table behind him.

Slaughter at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick30 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In the 30th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Colton Hood
No edge and no loss on Colton Hood in pick 33; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick46 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
A reasonable price with a little left over, Olaivavega Ioane in pick No. 46. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Slaughter reach slot 62 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick77 Rnd3 Austin Barber
No drama and no debate, Austin Barber went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
The board had Omar Cooper Jr. higher than the 94th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick101 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
A straight-up fair deal on D'Angelo Ponds at Round 4, Pick 1, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick112 Rnd4 Akheem Mesidor
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Akheem Mesidor well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick118 Rnd4 Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard at No. 118 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick129 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jacob Rodriguez this early at pick 129. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick136 Rnd4 Terrance Carter Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Terrance Carter Jr. at the 136th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick175 Rnd5 Trinidad Chambliss
Nothing to complain about; Trinidad Chambliss went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick182 Rnd6 Gracen Halton
They paid sticker price for Gracen Halton in slot 182, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick183 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in the Round 6 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick217 Rnd7 Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan at pick No. 217 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick218 Rnd7 De'Zhaun Stribling
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on De'Zhaun Stribling. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
