Couch GM DRAFTING FOR THERavens
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Ravens did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. Everything else got attention, and interior defensive lineman got none. That is a strange way for the Ravens to leave a draft. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They will need Williams to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In pick No. 30 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick62
Rnd2
Christian Haynes
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in the 62nd pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick93
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
They took Brenden Rice at par in slot 93, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick113
Rnd4
James Williams
They jumped the gun on James Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick130
Rnd4
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick165
Rnd5
Kamal Hadden
No edge and no loss on Kamal Hadden in Round 5, Pick 29; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
