The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Horton: B+. The rest of the league will want that one back. Tory Horton tumbling to the Bears in Round 5, Pick 10 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Loveland pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots still on the board. Reaching for Parr left real value on the table behind him.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
They took Tyler Warren at par in pick No. 14, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick39
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in the 39th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick41
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots to take Colston Loveland, a tight end that was not the priority.
Pick55
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
A tidy little value on Aireontae Ersery in the 55th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jayden Higgins in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick86
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Steal is underselling it; Quinshon Judkins at No. 86 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick148
Rnd5
Tory Horton
Tory Horton at Round 5, Pick 10 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick158
Rnd5
Kobe King
Taking Kobe King in pick 158 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick232
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
Nice patience on Cam Jackson, who had no business lasting to the 232nd overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick233
Rnd7
Logan Parr
Logan Parr at the 233rd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Pick240
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
The board had Ja'Corey Brooks higher than pick 240, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
