Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. Kingsley Eguakun at the 255th overall pick is 43 spots clear of where he belonged.
The Gray pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and wide receiver still on the board. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Milton. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the 25th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick58
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
The board had Edgerrin Cooper higher than the Round 2 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick88
Rnd3
Renardo Green
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Renardo Green at pick No. 88 is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick91
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They paid sticker price for Khyree Jackson in slot 91, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cedric Gray at linebacker with quarterback and wide receiver open.
Pick169
Rnd5
Trente Jones
Trente Jones in pick No. 169 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick202
Rnd6
Erick All
A straight-up fair deal on Erick All at the 202nd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick219
Rnd6
Kendall Milton
Somehow Kendall Milton was still sitting there in the 219th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick245
Rnd7
Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick255
Rnd7
Kingsley Eguakun
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kingsley Eguakun. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
