The steal of the weekend belongs to the Cowboys and Gabriel: C. The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Dillon Gabriel, the No. 128 name on the board, sitting there at the 211th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
Turner has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
So much rides on Tetairoa McMillan that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
Tetairoa McMillan at the Round 1 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Tre Harris
They let Tre Harris come to them and pounced at pick No. 63. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick66
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
A conviction pick on Donovan Jackson at the 66th pick that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick74
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte in slot 74 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick76
Rnd3
Shemar Turner
This one needs a full-page explanation: Shemar Turner in No. 76, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick149
Rnd5
Emery Jones Jr.
Taking Emery Jones Jr. in pick 149 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick170
Rnd5
Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders in Round 5, Pick 32 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171
Rnd5
CJ West
They reached into another round for CJ West, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick174
Rnd5
Damien Martinez
The board fumbled Damien Martinez all the way to Round 5, Pick 36, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick188
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
A quiet steal in pick 188: Jaylen Reed for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick211
Rnd6
Dillon Gabriel
Dillon Gabriel at the 211th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247
Rnd7
Theo Wease Jr.
They will replay Theo Wease Jr. at No. 247 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
