If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Kai Kroeger at the 230th overall pick is 39 spots clear of where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The Lachey steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will answer for taking safety early while running back and quarterback went begging. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
