Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesC FutureB+
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

There is reaching, and then there is Richard Jibunor at Round 7, Pick 20. The Steelers jumped the board by 77 and dared it to prove them wrong. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

Getting Melton where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The Frazier pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still on the board.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line at fair value.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
A surprising call. With quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent the 51st overall pick on Zach Frazier, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick84 Rnd3 Max Melton
They barely believed it either: Max Melton still on the board at No. 84. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick118 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in the 118th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick119 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Davis at pick 119, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick137 Rnd5 Kalen King
They paid sticker price for Kalen King in Round 5, Pick 1, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick194 Rnd6 Josh Proctor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Josh Proctor. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick226 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
They took Frank Gore Jr. at par in No. 226, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick240 Rnd7 Richard Jibunor
Richard Jibunor at Round 7, Pick 20 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
