FutureA
The Commanders fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Commanders took Mikail Kamara a full 46 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Ioane falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Adding Tuli Tuipulotu by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 22nd pick they get a green-dot type in the middle at fair value. More want than need.
Pick55
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane in No. 55 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick71
Rnd3
Mikail Kamara
They left a pile of value on the table to take Mikail Kamara this early at the 71st overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick123
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bryce Lance. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick145
Rnd5
Michael Trigg
They did well to land Michael Trigg in slot 145, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick187
Rnd6
Bud Clark
They talked themselves into Bud Clark at pick 187, and the board did not agree. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick198
Rnd6
Josh Moten
They paid a round early for Josh Moten in the Round 6 slot, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick223
Rnd7
Barion Brown
A wild overpay on Barion Brown in pick No. 223, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
