Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
A franchise passer in Williams headlines a A- weekend for the Bears.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Bears committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.

They banked enough surplus on Rice to cover a lot of smaller sins. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

If Frazier pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick8 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Rome Odunze. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick9 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 27 they get a long-term starter on the line, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at the 40th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick43 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Keon Coleman in pick 43, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick66 Rnd3 Trey Benson
No drama and no debate, Trey Benson went about where he belonged in the 66th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick74 Rnd3 Josh Newton
Josh Newton at pick No. 74 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick100 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
They will replay Brenden Rice at the 100th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick110 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at the 110th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick122 Rnd4 Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen at pick 122 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick143 Rnd5 Kris Abrams-Draine
Circle this one: Kris Abrams-Draine at Round 5, Pick 7 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick146 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ben Sinnott at pick No. 146. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick223 Rnd7 Omar Speights
Omar Speights at slot 223 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
