Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Jaguars. Some picks age like wine; Drew Shelton at the 56th pick will need to, sitting 32 spots clear of his grade. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
On value alone, Caldwell makes the weekend a net positive. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick56
Rnd2
Drew Shelton
Drew Shelton at No. 56 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick81
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Fair-plus on Omar Cooper Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Mikail Kamara
Mikail Kamara in slot 88 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick100
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Somehow Zakee Wheatley was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick124
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
They read the board right and Tacario Davis was the payoff at the 124th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick162
Rnd5
Sam Roush
Sam Roush in pick 162 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick164
Rnd5
Terion Stewart
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Terion Stewart. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jimmy Rolder
Jimmy Rolder at pick 233 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick245
Rnd7
Jeff Caldwell
The board fumbled Jeff Caldwell all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
