Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC+ FutureB
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Chiefs and McAlister: B-.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Eric McAlister got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at No. 223. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

They will need Reiger to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Peter Woods
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick40 Rnd2 Max Klare
They paid up for Max Klare at Round 2, Pick 8 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick109 Rnd4 Chandler Rivers
Chandler Rivers at the 109th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick176 Rnd5 Mason Reiger
Mason Reiger at pick No. 176 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick196 Rnd6 Le'Veon Moss
A reach for Le'Veon Moss in pick 196; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick223 Rnd7 Eric McAlister
Circle this one: Eric McAlister at No. 223 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
