Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A franchise passer in Simpson headlines a B weekend for the Browns.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Browns spent their marquee pick on Ty Simpson, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The Tollison pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Ty Simpson
In slot 6 they get the face of the franchise, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick24 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In pick 24 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
No drama and no debate, Emmanuel Pregnon went about where he belonged in the 39th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick70 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in pick No. 70 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick107 Rnd4 Kaytron Allen
A tidy little value on Kaytron Allen in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick139 Rnd5 Kage Casey
Kage Casey at No. 139 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144 Rnd5 Chris McClellan
Chris McClellan slipping to the 144th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick147 Rnd5 Connor Tollison
A premium they did not need to pay, Connor Tollison a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick204 Rnd6 Red Murdock
Red Murdock in the 204th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick248 Rnd7 Zavion Thomas
Circle this one: Zavion Thomas at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
