Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Bears robbed the room for Cooper Jr.. Final grade: D-. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
The Cooper Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They will need Freeling to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get an anchor for the defensive front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
No edge and no loss on Brandon Cisse in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jadarian Price
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jadarian Price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Josiah Trotter
Josiah Trotter at slot 63 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick89
Rnd3
Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling in the 89th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick95
Rnd3
Jalon Kilgore
They went early on Jalon Kilgore in pick No. 95, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick107
Rnd4
Deion Burks
They did well to land Deion Burks in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick129
Rnd4
Logan Jones
No drama and no debate, Logan Jones went about where he belonged in the 129th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick139
Rnd5
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in No. 139 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick163
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in slot 163 is fair value, right on his grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick204
Rnd6
Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet at Round 6, Pick 25 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick239
Rnd7
Tony Grimes
Tony Grimes at the 239th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick241
Rnd7
Ricardo Hallman
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ricardo Hallman in pick No. 241. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
