Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB- TradesB FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B-.

The Steelers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 126 on Joe Milton III a full 74 spots early.

The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. It is not that Foster is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. Hopper falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In pick No. 20 they get a blindside protector, even if it was a touch early. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at slot 51 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick88 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
A tidy bit of business in the 88th pick, where Mike Sainristil graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick98 Rnd3 Javon Foster
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Foster at offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open.
Pick119 Rnd4 James Williams
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at pick 119, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126 Rnd4 Joe Milton III
They reached into another round for Joe Milton III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick178 Rnd6 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at pick No. 178 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick195 Rnd6 Ty'Ron Hopper
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ty'Ron Hopper at the 195th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick219 Rnd6 Solomon Byrd
Solomon Byrd at slot 219 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
