FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Chiefs. The Jaylan Ford pick is the one that will follow the Chiefs into the fall. They took him 32 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Landing Fisher that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
No edge and no loss on Xavier Legette in the 40th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick65
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie at Round 3, Pick 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick79
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni in No. 79 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick95
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick109
Rnd4
Maason Smith
Maason Smith in the 109th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick132
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at pick No. 132 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
They paid up for Justin Eboigbe at the 139th pick when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
Pick142
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at slot 142 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick159
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luke McCaffrey at the 159th overall pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick166
Rnd5
Cody Schrader
A premium they did not need to pay, Cody Schrader a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
They reached into another round for Jaylan Ford, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick240
Rnd7
Bub Means
Bub Means in Round 7, Pick 20 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
