Huskie Badger DRAFTING FOR THEPackers

Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Packers. The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Cedric Gray, taking him 22 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Packers indulged a want in Gray while a need in quarterback, wide receiver and other spots stayed open. Jennings falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In slot 26 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick58
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Nice patience on Kris Jenkins, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 26. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
No edge and no loss on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick No. 88; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick91
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They paid sticker price for Khyree Jackson in the 91st overall pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92
Rnd3
Cedric Gray
A curious use of pick 92. Quarterback, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Cedric Gray did not.
Pick126
Rnd4
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at the 126th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick169
Rnd5
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at the 169th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick202
Rnd6
Julian Pearl
Julian Pearl at No. 202 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick219
Rnd6
Myles Murphy
Myles Murphy in pick 219 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick220
Rnd6
Tylan Grable
A premium they did not need to pay, Tylan Grable a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick245
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
They paid up for Kimani Vidal at Round 7, Pick 25 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255
Rnd7
Donovan Jennings
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Donovan Jennings at slot 255 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
