Draft Grade — Bills
Overall

FutureB-
Grand theft in No. 169: the Bills steal Bowman Jr. and grade out a B. The Bills did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Billy Bowman Jr. fell into pick No. 169. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The Hairston pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher and quarterback. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They will need Hairston to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick56
Rnd2
Trey Amos
Trey Amos in the 56th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick62
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 62nd pick on Maxwell Hairston with edge rusher and quarterback unsolved.
Pick109
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Nice patience on Cam Skattebo, who had no business lasting to pick No. 109. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick132
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
A clean, defensible pick in pick 132 with a little surplus value in Darius Alexander. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick169
Rnd5
Billy Bowman Jr.
Billy Bowman Jr. at No. 169 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick170
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
They barely believed it either: Pat Bryant still on the board at slot 170. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick173
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at Round 5, Pick 35 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
Nothing to complain about; Jack Kiser went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick206
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
Value with a capital V on Luke Lachey in pick 206, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
