JAGUAR1 DRAFTING FOR THEJaguars

Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Jaguars a B-. The Jaguars treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 6 slot on Richard Jibunor a full 60 spots early. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at safety, quarterback and other spots. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
They took Quinyon Mitchell at par in the 17th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick48
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavier Legette in Round 2, Pick 16, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick96
Rnd3
Maason Smith
They bypassed pressing needs at safety, quarterback and other spots to take Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick114
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mekhi Wingo in pick 114. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick116
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick153
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at pick No. 153 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick212
Rnd6
Richard Jibunor
Richard Jibunor at slot 212 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Pick236
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
