FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Lions. The Lions looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Dallas Gant at Round 7, Pick 29 regardless, 71 picks early.
The McCormick pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick43
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter at pick No. 43 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick53
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell slid further than he should have, and No. 53 is lovely value for the edge rusher. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick73
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 73rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick87
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Zak Zinter. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick164
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 164 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 38, where Tykee Smith graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick201
Rnd6
Justin Rogers
They let Justin Rogers come to them and pounced at No. 201. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick205
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
A quiet steal in the 205th overall pick: Jase McClellan for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick249
Rnd7
Dallas Gant
A wild overpay on Dallas Gant in slot 249, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
