Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C+
ValueA- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
Thornton Jr. should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a C+.

The Bears spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Dont'e Thornton Jr., the No. 173 name on the board, in the 240th pick. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Hit on Omarion Hampton and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick41 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Value with a capital V on Omarion Hampton in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick65 Rnd3 Aireontae Ersery
They let Aireontae Ersery come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 1. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick72 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
A quiet steal in No. 72: Demetrius Knight Jr. for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick148 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
Steal is underselling it; Malachi Moore at pick 148 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick166 Rnd5 Kobe King
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 166 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick233 Rnd7 Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson at the 233rd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick240 Rnd7 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 240th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick241 Rnd7 Cobee Bryant
They barely believed it either: Cobee Bryant still on the board at slot 241. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
