Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Dolphins lost the trade table, and the D tells the story.

The Dolphins did not so much draft Drew Allar as overpay for him, 52 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Dolphins indulged a want in Scott while a need in interior defensive lineman stayed open.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Scott at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick37 Rnd2 Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson at slot 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick38 Rnd2 Zion Young
They paid sticker price for Zion Young in the 38th pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick43 Rnd2 Omar Cooper Jr.
A reach on Omar Cooper Jr. in pick No. 43; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 75th overall pick on Keionte Scott with interior defensive lineman unsolved.
Pick91 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at pick 91 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick94 Rnd3 Drew Allar
They reached a country mile for Drew Allar at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick111 Rnd4 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton slipping to slot 111 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick130 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon in No. 130 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick149 Rnd5 Louis Moore
By-the-book stuff, Louis Moore at the 149th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick166 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner at the 166th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick227 Rnd7 Aiden Fisher
A straight-up fair deal on Aiden Fisher at pick 227, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick228 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
They talked themselves into Trey Zuhn III at pick No. 228, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick246 Rnd7 Nolan Rucci
They liked Nolan Rucci enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 7, Pick 30. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
