Pritchett should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a B+. Somebody in pick No. 172 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Nehemiah Pritchett, the No. 134 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Reaching for Murphy left real value on the table behind him. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
JC Latham
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell is a better player than No. 43 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick95
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 95 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick131
Rnd4
Grayson Murphy
A big swing on Grayson Murphy at slot 131, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick158
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
They barely believed it either: Johnny Wilson still on the board at pick 158. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick172
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
They will replay Nehemiah Pritchett at the 172nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
