CAM772 DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

A franchise passer in Nussmeier headlines a B- weekend for the Steelers. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Steelers spent their marquee pick on Garrett Nussmeier, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Haulcy steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will need Nussmeier to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. With interior defensive lineman and edge rusher unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Garrett Nussmeier
Garrett Nussmeier at Round 1, Pick 21 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick53
Rnd2
Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt slid further than he should have, and the 53rd pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
Value with a capital V on Jadarian Price in pick 76, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick85
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
They barely believed it either: A.J. Haulcy still on the board at No. 85. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick99
Rnd3
Blake Miller
Blake Miller at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick121
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
A curious use of pick No. 121. Interior defensive lineman and edge rusher needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Parker Brailsford did not.
Pick135
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Domani Jackson at slot 135 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick159
Rnd5
Bryce Boettcher
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bryce Boettcher. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick213
Rnd6
Conner Weigman
Conner Weigman is a better player than pick No. 213 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick214
Rnd6
Brett Norfleet
They paid sticker price for Brett Norfleet in the 214th pick, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick224
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
A straight-up fair deal on Riley Mahlman at the 224th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick237
Rnd7
Joey Aguilar
Circle this one: Joey Aguilar at slot 237 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
