The tape said wait; the Panthers did not. Patrick Payton went at the Round 5 slot, a good 42 picks before the board was ready. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
