Dlynch732 DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueC-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bears, and a B- to prove it. The Bears clearly saw something nobody else did in Braylan Shelby, taking him 52 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 2 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Joshua Josephs
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick61
Rnd2
Anthony Lucas
Anthony Lucas in the Round 2 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick93
Rnd3
Chase Bisontis
They left a pile of value on the table to take Chase Bisontis this early at the 93rd pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick128
Rnd4
Blake Miller
A reach for Blake Miller in pick 128; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick168
Rnd5
Braylan Shelby
This one needs a full-page explanation: Braylan Shelby in slot 168, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
