Draft Grade — Packers
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Packers for Hancock: D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Packers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.

Thornton Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Landing Hancock that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Will Johnson
Good price on Will Johnson in the Round 1 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at pick 43 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick87 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
By-the-book stuff, Darius Alexander at slot 87 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick100 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
They robbed the room for Ozzy Trapilo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick124 Rnd4 Kyle Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Kyle Williams at the 124th pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick159 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Value said wait; Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 159th overall pick says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick198 Rnd6 CJ West
CJ West at the 198th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick237 Rnd7 Mac McWilliams
The board had cheaper options than Mac McWilliams at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick250 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
Circle this one: Jordan Hancock at No. 250 is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
