Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Raiders bet the future on Mendoza. The board says B-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Golday steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Cooper Jr. pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In pick No. 1 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 4, with Kayden McDonald worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
A big swing on Omar Cooper Jr. at slot 67, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick102
Rnd4
Jake Golday
Jake Golday in the 102nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick135
Rnd4
Blake Miller
The board had Blake Miller higher than pick 135, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick176
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at the 176th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
