FutureB-
The Bears finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D. The tape said wait; the Bears did not. Darius Robinson went at pick No. 86, a good 35 picks before the board was ready. Put together, it is a D.
Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The McMillan pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick No. 1 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in the 44th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick55
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. in No. 55 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A reach for Sedrick Van Pran in pick 75; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick86
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
They reached a country mile for Darius Robinson at slot 86, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
A clean, defensible pick in No. 111 with a little surplus value in Khyree Jackson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick113
Rnd4
Audric Estime
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 13, where Audric Estime graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jalen McMillan
Steal is underselling it; Jalen McMillan at slot 123 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
A big swing on Jared Wiley at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick220
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
Somehow Josh Proctor was still sitting there in pick 220, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
