Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B-.

Nobody had Brett Norfleet this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 31 spots to get him at pick No. 206. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Patriots indulged a want in Rodriguez while a need in edge rusher, safety and other spots stayed open.

That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the 30th pick they get the heartbeat of the defense, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick62 Rnd2 Malachi Fields
A reach for Malachi Fields in the 62nd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94 Rnd3 Charles Jagusah
A big swing on Charles Jagusah at pick 94, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick129 Rnd4 Max Iheanachor
They reached a country mile for Max Iheanachor at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick130 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jacob Rodriguez adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher, safety and other spots untouched.
Pick169 Rnd5 Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson in Round 5, Pick 30 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick191 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
A straight-up fair deal on Lee Hunter at slot 191, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick201 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
They went early on Trey Zuhn III in No. 201, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick206 Rnd6 Brett Norfleet
Value said wait; Brett Norfleet in the 206th pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick211 Rnd6 Pat Coogan
This one needs a full-page explanation: Pat Coogan in the Round 6 slot, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick246 Rnd7 Hykeem Williams
Hykeem Williams at pick No. 246 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
