Draft Grade — Commanders

ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Commanders let Flowers fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Aaron Flowers at pick No. 230 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. With wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Dylan Stewart
In pick No. 7 they get a problem off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Trey'Dez Green
They will replay Trey'Dez Green at Round 2, Pick 6 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick73 Rnd3 Zach Lutmer
Zach Lutmer in No. 73 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jaylen McClain
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jaylen McClain adds a safety and leaves wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick145 Rnd5 Earl Little Jr.
A safety of that caliber at the 145th pick is the definition of value, full stop. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick185 Rnd6 CJ Bailey
A reasonable price with a little left over, CJ Bailey in slot 185. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick230 Rnd7 Aaron Flowers
Steal is underselling it; Aaron Flowers at the 230th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
