FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the 49ers this weekend: B+. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Que Robinson at pick No. 147 is 40 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Collins at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In slot 11 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick66
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins slipping to Round 3, Pick 2 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Elic Ayomanor in the 75th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick85
Rnd3
Savion Williams
Savion Williams in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick95
Rnd3
Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant at pick 95 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick100
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
They paid sticker price for Jared Wilson in No. 100, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick113
Rnd4
Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson at pick No. 113 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick133
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
By-the-book stuff, Malachi Moore at No. 133 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick138
Rnd4
Tyler Baron
A premium they did not need to pay, Tyler Baron a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
Pick147
Rnd5
Que Robinson
Que Robinson at pick 147 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Pick160
Rnd5
Ben Sauls
A market-rate specialist, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ben Sauls. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick227
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
They took Carson Vinson at par in the 227th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick249
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick252
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
A straight-up fair deal on Tonka Hemingway at slot 252, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
