FutureA+
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D+. The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Sam Hartman at pick 191 regardless, 68 picks early. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick20
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
In slot 20 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in the 40th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick56
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
They took Zach Frazier at par in the 56th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick71
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Trey Benson at pick 71 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick119
Rnd4
Ray Davis
Nice patience on Ray Davis, who had no business lasting to pick No. 119. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick120
Rnd4
McKinnley Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on McKinnley Jackson at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jacob Cowing
A reach for Jacob Cowing in Round 4, Pick 34; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick158
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
A clean, defensible pick in the 158th pick with a little surplus value in Kitan Oladapo. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick163
Rnd5
Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse at the 163rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis in pick No. 174 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick179
Rnd6
Ro Torrence
No drama and no debate, Ro Torrence went about where he belonged in pick 179. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick191
Rnd6
Sam Hartman
A real head-scratcher, Sam Hartman in No. 191 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick216
Rnd6
Tyrice Knight
Value said wait; Tyrice Knight in slot 216 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
