Draft Grade — Raiders

FutureB-
The Raiders drew a line under the quarterback search with Mendoza: D-. The war room fell hard for Isaiah Jatta, and it showed at slot 167: 32 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Fernando Mendoza gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
They banked enough surplus on Smith to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In slot 1 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick29
Rnd1
Zion Young
In pick No. 29 they get a premier pass rusher, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Colton Hood
Good price on Colton Hood in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick61
Rnd2
Lee Hunter
They paid a round early for Lee Hunter in No. 61, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Pick72
Rnd3
Skyler Bell
They paid up for Skyler Bell at Round 3, Pick 8 when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick93
Rnd3
Caden Curry
A reach on Caden Curry in the 93rd pick; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick102
Rnd4
Genesis Smith
Genesis Smith is a better player than the 102nd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick110
Rnd4
Xavier Scott
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Scott in pick 110. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick117
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
A clean, defensible pick in slot 117 with a little surplus value in Bryce Lance. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick134
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
A reach for Max Iheanachor in Round 4, Pick 34; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick167
Rnd5
Isaiah Jatta
Isaiah Jatta at No. 167 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick174
Rnd5
Lander Barton
Lander Barton at pick No. 174 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
