Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

For all the boxes ticked, the Texans skipped the loudest one: wide receiver is exactly as bare as it was.

If Colby pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Mafah at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
Jack Sawyer in Round 1, Pick 25 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick58 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at pick No. 58 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick79 Rnd3 Darien Porter
No drama and no debate, Darien Porter went about where he belonged in the 79th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick89 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at pick 89 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick166 Rnd5 Connor Colby
Connor Colby at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick236 Rnd7 Phil Mafah
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Phil Mafah at slot 236. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick241 Rnd7 Zeek Biggers
Zeek Biggers at No. 241 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
