Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Patriots. Nobody had Ceyair Wright this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 70 spots to get him at Round 6, Pick 21. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The Hill Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher and running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In pick No. 31 they get a security blanket over the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. at pick 63 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick95
Rnd3
Max Iheanachor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Max Iheanachor. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick125
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge in Round 4, Pick 25 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick131
Rnd4
Kyle Louis
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kyle Louis adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher and running back untouched.
Pick168
Rnd5
Gracen Halton
A straight-up fair deal on Gracen Halton at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick169
Rnd5
Bud Clark
They jumped the gun on Bud Clark, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick200
Rnd6
Ceyair Wright
Ceyair Wright at the 200th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick207
Rnd6
Barion Brown
Barion Brown in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick247
Rnd7
Haynes King
A tidy bit of business in slot 247, where Haynes King graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
